The Black Bean Dye

Tons of blacks are soaked in water that is then poured down a drain. It turns out that this water actually creates a deep blue dye. After identifying this, we inquired with Burlington Beer Works to get their excess black bean water. Then, in a collaboration with Shaniko Wool Company and InnovaKnits, we garment dyed a beanie using this dye. We are excited to put something typically wasted to good use.

Avocado Pit Dye

Avocados are a staple ingredient for people all around the world. Unfortunely, the pit is commonly discarded even though it can be used to create a pretty, light pink dye. Solid State Clothing resoruced avacado pits that were going to be thrown away from a local resutaeunt to dye beanies. It is our goal to begin finding a way to stop these pits from being thrown away, into being used as dye.

To create natural dyes, we want to look at resources that will be wasted or underutilized. Through research and development, we have identified three natural materials that can be used to create beautiful dye colors.
