Growing industrial hemp did not become legal in North Carolina until just a few years ago. Since then, TS Designs and Solid State Clothing source hemp leaves from Brown Family Farms, located in Warren County, NC. While the stock of the hemp plant can be used to make textiles, paper, and more, the leaves may initially appear as useless.

Using a Pyrotech machine, the hemp leaves produce a beautiful and unique light-yellow dye. This way, no part of the plant is wasted, and the hemp dye is combined with cotton to create the signature t-shirt at Solid State Clothing.
